Cowtown, Wichita KS

I just got back from a week vacation. My trip started staying with Hollie while I attended a SHRM Conference in Layton, and then I flew to Denver to see Annie, Dusty and the girls. I was there one night and then I flew to Wichita to see Haley, Barry and Brooklyn.

So, if you are looking a tropical vacation, I don't recommend Wichita...but if you are looking for an adventure on the plains of Kansas, I would highly recommend Haley be your tour guide.

I had a great time walking around Cowtown (http://www.oldcowtown.org/). Cowtown is a larger version of Pioneer Village at Lagoon. We took a wagon to see the new baby calf. Haley wanted Brooklyn to see the mommy cow up close. The cow had her head between the slants in the fence. Haley moved closer to the cow to show Brooklyn, and just as she moved closer the cow stuck it's face right into Haley's face. Haley was so startled that she fell backward. She has the bruises on to prove it. I didn't try to help her because I was laughing too hard. I wish I had a video camera.

Haley and Barry convinced me to try a bacon maple doughnut at the doughnut whole. Sounds interesting right? It was totally awesome. I also went to the oldest diner in the Wichita. Our waitress was fabulous. Have you ever tried a Dr. Pepper, pineapple soda? I highly recommend it. Oh course the highlight of my trip was seeing Haley, Barry and Brooklyn, and their house. It has so much character. It think it was built in 1820 something-Haley correct me if I'm wrong. I love the layout, wood floors, windows, and small stair case that leads to the upstairs. Their house is also in a historical district. Down the street is a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright http://home.onemain.com/~allenlam/

It was sad to say goodbye. I left Wichita and flew to Denver. Annie decided to take me on a day trip to Bounder. We walked around looking for somewhere to eat. We ended up at the Bounder Brewery. Our waiter brought out two beers on the house. We told him we didn't drink. He was embarrassed and gave the drinks to the table next to ours. I'm sure he was wondering what two non-drinking gals were doing in a Brewery. We wondered too....we just wanted a hamburger.

I was lucky to make it back to Utah. Annie thought we had plenty of time to get to the airport, but it turns out it takes 40 something mins. I was in such a hurry to get checked in that I forgot my bag of gifts. Everyone knows how tight security is at an airport. Annie didn't want to leave her car to give me the bag, so she left my bag by the sliding glass doors.... The woman behind me told me she would grab it so no one thought it was a bomb. I made it just in time to board the plane. I was giggling to myself about what a mess it wouldn't have been if a security officer was by the sliding doors. I might be not be here to type this post....

What an adventure! Who would have thought Denver and Kansas could be so much fun.
I really was a little worried that government vehicles were going to pull me over to arrest me on the way home from the airport that night. Glad you made it home safely. I enjoyed the day with you. See you soon.

Thanks for coming em. You were just off by 100 years. My house was built in 1922. Good times. :)
